Films about downhill skiers haven’t been this hot since Eddie The Eagle touted his life story around the studios. With Ghost’s Bruce Joel Rubin already at work on a script about blind skier Michael May, another snow business expert will get the biopic treatment.
Bill Johnson made headlines in the 1984 Olympics by winning the gold medal, but saw that trumped by a massive, life-threatening crash during a comeback bid, which left him with memory loss.
Now Warner Brothers has bought Johnson’s life story and rights to Ski To Die, a book on his saga by Jennifer Woodlief. Jamie Linden, who wrote the script for upcoming sports tragedy We Are Marshall, will get to work on a screenplay. "Bill went from magazine covers to frustration over his inability to match his greatest feat," Linden told Variety. Cheers for clearing that up. Now back to the computer screen, writer boy!
