Despite its foul-mouthed, caustic content (actually, often because of), Irvine Welsh's work has been adapted several times for the big screen, including Filth and a little film called Trainspotting. Now he's taking one of his novels, Crime, to TV himself, with Dougray Scott lined up to star.
Welsh will write the adaptation of the book alongside regular collaborator Dean Cavanagh. Crime is a sequel to Filth, and will see Scott playing the present day version of Ray Lennox (as portrayed by Jamie Bell in the film). It'll be set in Miami with flashbacks to Lennox's last case in Edinburgh, which involved a paedophile ring.
According to Welsh, it's "a classic journey from darkness into light, and despite the troubling subject matter, I think an uplifting one," and it'll be produced by Buccaneer, the company behind Marcella. In related Welsh news, the Trainspotting sequel will be with us on 27 January.
