While his focus is currently preparing to make one novel adaptation, the film of Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking, Doug Liman is adding another to his To Do list for later down the line. He's attached to direct Unearthed.

Sony's Columbia Pictures arm grabbed the rights to Amie Kauffman and Meagan Spooner's upcoming YA novel Unearthed with an eye to turning it into a movie. The studio has hired Jez and John Henry Butterworth, who worked on Edge Of Tomorrow with Liman, to write the script.

Kauffman and Spooner's book (which doesn't hit shelves until January), is being described as a space-set Indiana Jones-style tale. The story is set on a distant future Earth where the planet has been all but ruined by environmental chaos. With the lingering promise of some way to help the planet, a scholar and a scavenger must team up to explore the world of a long-vanished alien race. Digging down into a ruined temple, they discover secrets that may actually harm their own home instead of saving it.

Liman has American Made due here on 25 August.
