Looks like Doug Liman is making sure he keeps plenty of irons in the development fire. Although just yesterday he was excitedly talking up his plans to make a film about intriguing true life chancer-turned-Chinese-Imperial-Bodyguard “Two-Gun” Cohen, today brings word that he’s looking to keep his moon-based science fiction project firing on all thrusters. The Heat Vision blog reports that he’s talking to the likes of Andrew Garfield , Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde about roles in the film.
The plot finds a group of former space-types travelling the world in an attempt to steal equipment that would let them rocket to the moon to find an energy source. And the final piece of the puzzle they need? An ex-NASA bod.
This one has been in the works since at least 2007 when Liman set it up at DreamWorks and snagged Jake Gyllenhaal to star. After the DW/Paramount break-up, it was adopted by Paramount and kept hold of Gyllenhaal, though he's now off the project. But then things went awfully quiet, despite having passed through the scriptwriting hands of Simon Kinberg, Mark Bowden and Ken Nolan.
Now Liman is busy taking meetings with talent, including the names above plus Rachel McAdams, Zoe Saldana, Emile Hirsch and Evan – sorry, Eva Mendes. And though he had been pushing to make **All You Need is Kill **at Warners, it now seems like the moon film is his primary focus.
Liman’s film, which was once called Luna, is now sitting without a title. Of course, he can’t just call it “Moon,” or Duncan Jones would be round to give him a punch up the bracket. Assuming Duncan isn’t dead from promoting Source Code already.
