Donald Glover is a man with something of a storied Spider-history. From the fan campaign to have him cast as Miles Morales (he eventually voiced the character in an animated series Ultimate Spider-Man) to his brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, he's got form in the web slinger's territory. Now, though, he's looking to play one of his villains, albeit not someone from, shall we say, the front rank of the rogue's gallery. Glover is attached to star as the Hypno-Hustler in a new movie.

The who? Created by Bill Mantlo and artist Frank Springer, Hypno-Hustler was a disco-era character who first appeared in ‘Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man’ No. 24 in 1978. His real name was Antoine Delsoin, the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers and used hypnosis technology in his instruments on his audience in order to rob them.

Yup, sounds odd to us too, but let's not forget that Mantlo also created Rocket Racoon and that character has gone on to succeed on screen. And we're sure Glover could find a fun spin on the concept, even if Spider-Man himself seems unlikely to show up for this one.

And Glover isn't the only driving force behind the project: Myles Murphy, the son of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy, is on board to write the script.

It's a big swing (pun entirely intended) but we'll wait and see whether it pays off (assuming it makes it to screens at all).
