Who remembers Second Sight, that old BBC thriller, in which Clive Owen [pictured] starred as a cop with dodgy eyes who solved cases while being afflicted by visions and the like? You do remember it. Oh. We had to look it up.
Anyway, Don Murphy clearly remembers it, for the Transformers producer has just clinched a deal to adapt the show for the big screen.
Murphy, who will produce with his British wife Susan Montford, has commissioned screenwriter Craig Rosenberg to have a crack at the script, with Universal Studios executives ready to snatch it out of his hands to have a looksee the minute he’s finished.
Sounds like this could work well on the big screen – we like Murphy a lot. He says what’s on his mind, no matter who he pisses off, and we admire that. Incidentally, we wonder if he was turned onto the show by Owen himself – the British actor, of course, starred in last year’s Shoot Em Up for Murphy.
Does this mean that Owen might be in line to reprise one of the roles that made him famous in Britain, in a big-budget American movie? If so, that would certainly be, to our mind anyway, a first.
As for Rosenberg, he’s definitely a name on the rise, with script credits on the likes of After The Sunset, the decent Brett Ratner heist movie from a few years back, and some TV show called Lost. He’s also preparing to direct The Panopticon for producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
