Given that Avengers Assemble saw Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts brought along for the ride (or at least one scene), it seems only fair and fitting that Don Cheadle’s James “Rhodey” Rhodes – or War Machine / Iron Patriot, as he's also known – get his shot in the sequel. And so it is coming to pass, with Hitfix confirming a Bleeding Cool report that Cheadle is on board for **Age Of Ultron.
Joss Whedon is back writing and directing this one, looking to kick off shooting early in the New Year in the UK, Marvel’s current favourite filming spot. It’ll find Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark and the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (including Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and, most likely, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye) facing off against rogue robot Ultron (James Spader).
Given Rhodes’ close ties with Stark and his tech, he seems like a natural fit for the sequel, even if it’ll be crowded, what with Aaron Taylor-Johnson aboard as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen playing Scarlet Witch. From the sounds of it, though there are no official plot synopses online yet, the new film will bring big changes to the team.
Avengers: Age Of Ultro****n will do the robot on our screens on May 1, 2015.
