With the shoot set for January, director Alex Proyas is continuing to fill out the angelic ranks for his action fantasy Paradise Lost. The latest addition to the heavenly host? Dominic Purcell.

Proyas’ take on John Milton’s epic poem, which has been reconceived as an action epic for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will chart the war in Heaven sparked by the arrival of mankind as God’s new chosen favourite and the clash between Michael (Ben Walker) and Lucifer (Bradley Cooper).

The actor, who has roles in both Straw Dogs and Killer Elite but is still best known for TV drama Prison Break, is playing Jerahmeel, an angel who joins Lucifer’s side and ends up falling alongside him. When serving at the right hand of his dark master, he’s renamed Moloch.

Alongside Cooper, Walker and Purcell, the ensemble now includes Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Belle and Callan McAuliffe.

Proyas plans to use performance capture techniques to turn his actors into their fantastical forms, and the film will be out in 2013.
