JJ Abrams is racking up the previous collaborators as he continues shooting the next main Star Wars outing, still currently known outside Lucasfilm only as Episode IX. With Keri Russell already aboard, Dominic Monaghan is joining the film.

Deadline's report doesn't have the details of what he'll be playing, but according to the man himself, it's the realisation of a long-held dream. "The galaxy far, far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved," Monaghan says. So enthuses about that galaxy was he that when Abrams signed on to The Force Awakens, he enquired as to whether he could play a role for the man who produced Lost, on which Monaghan appeared in for four seasons (and popped up for a few guest shots near the end of the show).

Abrams has the current SW cast, including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Lupita Nyong'o all back alongside Mark Hamill, plus new faces Russell, Naomi Ackle, Richard E. Grant and now Monaghan.

The actor isn't exactly a stranger to big franchise, having played Merry for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. He was last seen in Duncan Jones' Mute.

Star Wars Episode IX will arrive in cinemas on 19 December next year. Here's Everything We Know About It So Far.
