Simon West and the team making action thriller Stratton had an unpleasant surprise at the end of May when Henry Cavill, who had developed the idea and was set to star, dropped out thanks to creative differences about the script. After a quick search, the film has a replacement leading man in Dominic Cooper, plus additional casting in the shape of Tom Felton, Austin Stowell, Gemma Chan, Tyler Hoechlin, Thomas Kretschmann, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen and Jake Fairbrother{
Though the cameras were originally due to roll last month, a quick schedule shift means it’ll all kick off next week in Italy. Cooper is aboard to play a Special Boat Service operative who must join forces with MI6 to prevent a terrorist attack. West, for one, seems fine with the new faces for the film. “Dominic Cooper’s talent, versatility and his originality as an actor, provide the perfect fit for what will be an entirely fresh and memorable action hero,” he told Screen International. “Supporting Dominic is an inspired choice of cast who are all extremely talented, uniquely diverse and will undeniably bring both charm and energy to make Stratton the ongoing potential franchise we know it can be.”
With a batch of distribution deals still in place, the film hasn’t yet a release date yet, but should be out next year.
