The future of Kevin Smith's controversy-courting film Dogma may look shaky in the US, but here in Blighty distributors Film Four have picked it up for a Boxing Day release. The tale of two errant fallen angels (played by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) is already the target of religious groups who have deemed it blasphemous - possibly something to do with the fact that misery divaAlanis Morissette plays God. Consequently, the question of a US distributor has been somewhat touchy. Miramax, who backed the film, tactfully passed owing to their association with the family-values-aware Disney, leading Lions Gate to pick up the rights. But now that deal looks iffy as Lions Gate are suffering a few financial hiccups and have out their Vancouver studio up for sale. Difficulties aside, the uncertainty has provided Dogma with that all-important pre-release publicity. The only question now is, is it any good?
