It may have lost the battle of the release dates with the 3D animated take, but Warner Bros.’ big-budget live-action version of the Tarzan story seems to be gathering the superior cast. With filming on the action-adventure set for this summer, Djimon Hounsou is the latest addition.
Harry Potter veteran David Yates is directing the film, which finds Alexander Skarsgard as the iconic ape-man after he has left the jungle and settled in London, only to be called back into action at the behest of Queen Victoria. Her Majesty asks him to investigate dodgy dealings around a mine. The Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie is set as Jane, with Samuel L. Jackson as a comrade and Christoph Waltz menacing proceedings as a villain.
While there are few details about how he will fit into the film, Deadline reports that Hounsou is playing Chief Mbonga in the film. He’ll next be heard rather than seen in** How To Train Your Dragon 2** (out July 4), but will be back properly on our screens in Guardians Of The Galaxy, in which he plays Korath the Pursuer. The Marvel pic arrives on July 30.
Next year, he’ll crop up in both the long-delayed fantasy adventure** Seventh Son** and Fast & Furious 7. We'll have to wait for Tarzan, though; that isn't scheduled to hit screens until July 2016.
