Teen alien movie I Am Number Four has drawn quite a bit of attention since it was first announced last June. Originally Michael Bay was set to produce and perhaps direct, then he hired Smallville writers Al Gough and Miles Millar to write the screenplay, and now DJ Caruso has signed on to direct.
Yes, the Disturbia and Eagle Eye director will handle the story of nine aliens hiding on Earth after their planet's destruction. The titular character disguises himself as a high school student - only to learn that his planet's enemy is still hunting the survivors.
It's all based on a book by James Frey (yes, the Million Little Pieces guy, who may have found his niche in fiction rather than memoir) and Joby Hughes, which is due to be published this autumn and followed by five more instalments of the story.
It's not yet clear whether Caruso will make this next, or proceed with The Art of Making Money, the forgery film that he also has planned. In any case, while we won't see it before the book is published it looks like the film won't be trailing too far behind.
