We’ve already had the featurette and trailer (find it at the bottom of the page), and now here are a couple of moody posters for young adult adaptation Divergent, featuring Shailene Woodley and Theo James looking like they got a little drunk and hit the tattoo parlor. They’re lurking in the gallery below.

Adapted from the first Veronica Roth’s series of novels, Divergent is set in a society where people are divided into social factions based on their personalities. It’s all part of a drive to end years of civil strife and war that has wracked a future America.

Woodley’s Beatrice “Tris” Prior, however, is different. She doesn’t belong in any one faction, and her divergent nature means she’s a threat to the orderly running of the civilization.

Things aren’t easy for those who are identified as different - and by different, we mean dangerous. She joins the Dauntless (courageous) faction but there, together with friends and her mysterious, handsome trailer Four (Theo James), Tris must face the perils ahead and figure out the plans of Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), the stern figurehead she’ll have to defeat.

While we may jest, above, the tattoos that Tris gets are part of the tradition of the Dauntless and a show of commitment to her new faction - and those birds are specifically mentioned in the book. The tattoos down Four's spine represent the five Factions: the flames of Dauntless at the top, then Abnegation (selflessness), Candour (honesty), Erudition (intelligence) and Amity (peace).

With Neil Burger directing and Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor on script duty, Divergent is hurtling through post-production now and will hit UK screens on March 21 next year.
