Tron Legacy

We’ve talked before about how, despite seeming to hit the box office buffers like a speeding light cycle crashing into a wall, Tron Legacy actually managed to haul in $400 million worldwide. Work on a sequel was quietly being compiled as the original was finished, but things went awfully quiet until June last year when David DiGilio took over script duties. Now it’s Jesse Wigutow’s turn to have a crack.

Wigutow, who previously wrote It Runs In The Family and has been at work on Parallels and **Peter And The Starcatchers **for Disney, is now also going to run what is currently known simply as Tron 3 through his word processor.

Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is still aboard to call the shots, though it’s currently wandering through the development code. According to the Hollywood Reporter however, there is renewed interest in the franchise from current Disney boss Alan Horn, who thinks it could be worth making another.

As for what will happen in this potential follow-up? No one is saying yet. But the end of Legacy, with Garrett Hedlund’s Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde’s Quorra arriving in the real world, points to some of the Grid’s troubles reaching out beyond its virtual borders. And perhaps setting Cillian Murphy up as Edward Dillinger won’t have been for naught!
