Disney, it would appear, just can’t get enough of franchise-ready, live-action adventures. And the company is looking to add one more to its line up with a new take on the mythology of gargoyles.

Yes, we do the demonic-looking, ugly little brutes based on the stone goblins who sit on churches and other buildings, ostensibly to siphon water away from the roof and walls but incidentally to ward off evil spirits. While the Mouse House has created stories about them before (most notably in the rather good 1994 animated TV series that launched an abortive attempt to transfer to the big screen after three seasons), a new effort is being put into a fresh take on the stony creatures.

This time around, up-and-coming writer Zoe Green (who wrote superhero tale Tigress for Stan Lee’s Disney-based POW! Entertainment) and an adaptation of Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age for the SyFy Channel, is being tasked with writing the script for a live-action film that** X-Men **producer Lauren Shuler Donner will oversee.

Nothing is known about the plot yet, but Disney is naturally keen to spawn something that can be used in various formats and create characters to plastered across everything from duvets to watches.
