This shouldn’t really be much of a surprise to anyone since Disney is so keen to keep scooping bounty from the treasure chest of its big franchise films, but despite the latest **Pirates of the Caribbean **outing (On Stranger Tides for the three people who forgot what it was subtitled) still being a few months away from docking in cinemas, the studio has officially hauled the anchor up on the as-yet-untitled fifth film, locking in a deal for Pirates veteran Terry Rossio to write the script.
This comes hot on the heels of rumours that the Mouse House was planning two more films. There’s every chance that could prove to be the case, but organising another mammoth shoot as with Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End could take some doing, particularly given how busy Johnny Depp is going to be soon.
Yet it sounds like Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are happy with what Rob Marshall has been doing with Tides – Bruckheimer has been merrily tweeting pictures and thoughts on the film all through the shoot and according to Deadline’s report, the studio is looking to convince the director to return for at least one more movie.
Less attached is Depp, but he’s apparently got a deal that would see him returning as Jack Sparrow, though again his schedule will probably be the biggest element to consider there. That, and whether he likes the script. This will be the first time that Rossio is working alone; he's crafted all the other scripts with writing partner Ted Elliott.
As for what the film will be about – you’re joking, right? There are zero details to be found and since Rossio has just locked in his deal, we doubt there will be much of anything official to be found for ages. We’re sure the leaks will start soon enough, but for now, everyone’s mind will be on Stranger Tides.
