Clearly romance and tension between vampires and witches are still able to draw audiences, as Sky has seen A Discovery Of Witches become a success. Enough of one, in fact, that the company is handing out a two-series renewal for the supernatural drama.
Based on Deborah Harkness' All Souls trilogy of books (A Discovery Of Witches, Shadow Of Night and The Book Of Life), the series stars Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer. It's the story of Diana Bishop (Palmer), a young scholar at Oxford who is a descendant of the Salem witches. When she accidentally unlocks an enchanted manuscript, she is compelled to embrace the magic in her blood and enters a forbidden romance with charming 1,500-year-old vampire Matthew Clairmont (Goode).
Series two will find them in hiding in time, lurking in Elizabethan London, where they must find a powerful witch teacher to help Diana control her magic and search for the elusive Book of Life. Owen Teale, Alex Kingston, Lindsay Duncan and Trevor Eve are among those returning for the new series. There's no air date mentioned yet, but we'd imagine it'll be back next year.
