It's the one you've all been waiting for, gentlemen: a new film from the author of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Yes, it- wait, come back! Come back! Ahem. Anyway, Anne Brashares' novel The Last Summer of You And Me is to be adapted for the screen, with Julie Anne Robinson directing and Mike Thompson writing.
"Who?" we hear you cry. Well, Robinson's currently directing Miley Cyrus in The Last Song, wherein the teen sensation plays a rebellious girl who's trying to connect to her concert pianist father (bet they bond over music!), but has made her way up through TV direction from a start on shows like Holby City (yes, really) and Weeds. Thompson wrote Dragonfly and the upcoming Jennifer Aniston film Love Happens, so he knows his romance.
And yes, it's a romance of sorts: this is the story of two sisters who return to their family summer home on New York's Fire Island each year. When their neighbour Paul, MIA for several summers, turns up again, romantic complications ensue in what we're assured is a more adult story than Brashares' Travelling Pants stories. Jessica Goldberg wrote the first draft of the script, with Thompson picking up where she left off.
No word on a start date for this one yet, but we're sure your two Travelling Pants DVDs will keep you going in the meantime.
