In its attempt to construct a cinematic universe on the back of The Lego Movie's success, Warner Bros. has been making a few changes to the various spin-offs. There's a new man overseeing The Billion Brick Race, with The Book Of Life director Jorge Gutierrez now on board.

Originally created by Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce and developed by Pearce alongside Jason Segel, the Billion Brick concept remains mostly a mystery beyond the title, which suggests a Cannonball Run-style movie. It has been sitting in the development toy box since the idea was first pitched as Warners preferred to wait and see what it became before hitching it to a release date. Now Gutierrez will give it his own spin, though Variety's report doesn't mention whether he'll actually end up directing it. You've got to figure, though, that the plan is for him to get it to the next stage.

The Lego Batman Movie arrived earlier this year and Mike Mitchell is overseeing the sequel to the original, which has a release date of February 2019. But next up from the studio is The Lego Ninjago Movie, due out on 13 October.
