They’ve conquered the indie comedy scene with Little Miss Sunshine, but now Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris are going after our children’s education.

They’re negotiating to direct Warner Independent Pictures' The Abstinence Teacher.

The previously announced comedy finds a recently divorced sex education teacher in middle America who is battling the town’s more conservative religious groups. But she’s also at war with her feelings for her daughter’s football coach, a born again sports hero. Tom Perotta, who wrote the novel the script will draw from, is adapting it and if they sign on, Dayton and Farris will work on the screenplay with him.

There’s no cast attached yet.
