Ooh, the sex thriller genre. It sounds so very saucy and yet, with more recent examples being Basic Instinct 2, it’s not in a healthy state. Still, Dimension Films is aiming to change all that, buying up a pitch from David Loucka called The Boathouse.
Iain Softley – who directed The Skeleton Key, and is about to shoot kids’ fantasy adventure Inkheart – will call the shots on the supernatural tale of a mysterious new woman whose new lover gets worried when he finds that all her previous romantic partners died under suspicious circumstances. Is she cursed, or just really unlucky? We’re guessing cursed.
Ehren Kruger is producing the film, and talked it up to Variety: “The Boathouse is a standout horror story, a scary film that explores sexual seduction in a way that the genre rarely braves to do." What, no good, clean love? Without utensils?
And as for Loucka, he clearly loves films with “house” in the title – he has Dream House set up at Universal. Perhaps when the team behind medical drama House come to make a film of the show, he’ll be the writer they call.
