Everything Empire knows about gambling, we learned from movies. Always double down on 11. Always bet on black. Never rub another man’s rhubarb. And hopefully soon we’ll have another gem to glean from Leonardo DiCaprio.
For the actor has just signed on to produce and star in a new, as-yet untitled thriller set in the world of online casinos based in Costa Rica. That’s all we know about the Paramount pic so far, but given that the script comes from the acclaimed writing duo, David Levien and Brian Koppelman, we can see why DiCaprio’s willing to have a flutter on a genre that rarely ignites at the box office.
Levien and Koppelman have got form in this department: they co-wrote the Matt Damon poker movie, Rounders, and contributed to Ocean’s Thirteen, which was set in a casino. The duo are also currently working with DiCaprio on another project, an adaptation of the novel, Beat The Reaper.
