Seventies cheese hits big-screen again...

The stunning Cameron Diaz is finalising a deal worth an estimated $12million to appear alongside the equally saliva-inducing Drew Barrymore as the second of the three Charlie's Angels for what is intended as a feature version of the 1970s private eye series. With Columbia Pictures helming the adventurous project, a director is more than likely the next recruit before another angel is brought onboard to complete the line up; however, the hot favourite thus far to fill the final position is Angelina Jolie, despite rumours enveloping Liv Tyler, Jada Pinkett Smith and even hip-hop singer Lauryn Hill. "We're including Drew and Cameron in the conversations about who should be the third woman, because what's most important is that these three women look like friends, and hopefully be friends," said hopeful producer Leonard Goldberg, who created the hit television series. With credits like There's Something About Mary and My Best Friend's Wedding, Diaz's recruitment adds a much-needed sense of bankability to what is potentially a dangerously cheesy project. As yet, no male has been attached to lend his voice for suave agency-owner, Charlie himself, played in the original series by John Forsythe. After all, turning a popular '70s TV series into a film with a hip cast was not enough to prevent The Mod Squad from bombing at the box office. Goldberg said Charlie's Angels will be high adventure with some comedy. "It will have a 200 mentality, with humour... but this is not a comedy, it's an adventure with moments of real tension and drama."
