New York Magazine's Vulture blog has published a precious few details on the Wachowski siblings' next film, currently titled Cobalt Neural 9 and set largely in Iraq. A mixture of future and slightly recent history (what with George W. Bush featuring as President) it's both a love story between a Marine and an Iraqi dissident and the story of the reconstruction of their affair by future historians.
The plot will apparently see the pair start a relationship, become radicalised by the War and come to see the President as the architect of all their troubles. The picture below shows Andy Wachowski with Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post, who does a Larry King-style appearance as herself in "old" footage recovered by those historians a hundred years from now, as will Jesse Ventura, apparently (as himself, that is. Not as Arianna; that would be silly). Check out the link above for many more plot details, some of them spoiler-y.
The film's budgeted in the slim $20m range, and will keep the siblings busy until their plan to produce Cloud Atlas, based on the ace David Mitchell novel, comes together. That's apparently set to star Halle Berry, Natalie Portman and Tom Hanks, with James McAvoy reportedly also sitting on an offer to join the cast. Tom Tykwer's set to direct that one.
