Johnny Depp will take the lead role in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind for X-Men director Bryan Singer. His co-star in the bizarre movie will be George Clooney, but his role is not yet revealed. The project, described as a 'satirical thriller', is adapted from the 1984 'autobiography' of quiz host Chuck Barris by Being John Malkovich scribe Charlie Kaufman. Barris claimed that he was an operative for the CIA, whilst overseeing The Gong Show, The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game on American TV. Depp has won the coveted role over the likes of Mike Myers and Kevin Spacey, and now has a gap in his schedule after the Terry Gilliam-directed The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was forced to shut down production after lead actor Jean Rochefort fell ill. Filming on Confessions... should begin this year, actors and writers strikes not withstanding.
