Now before we go any further, let's make one thing clear. Nothing is signed, sealed and delivered yet, so try to keep those heart palpatations under control. But Robert Rodriguez, talking to MTV about Sin City 2 (based on co-director Frank Miller's A Dame To Kill For), has suggested that Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas could be joining the cast.
OK, take a deep breath, and maybe blow into that brown paper bag until you've stopped hyperventilating. Rodriguez is bandying Depp's name about for the lead character of Wallace, a brooding artist who spends most of the film in a drug-induced hallucination (see Hell and Back for more). We can't think what, in Depp's back catalogue, could have persuaded them that he could play such a role.
Depp was apparently a fan of the first tests shot for the original film, but was shooting The Libertine and couldn't join the cast (he was apparently in line for Benicio Del Toro's role as Jackie Boy). This time, Rodriguez is sounding hopeful that he'll be aboard.
Meanwhile, Miller and Rodriguez are also trying to find a role for Antonio Banderas, who's also a big fan. And given that Miller has already expanded Nancy Callahan's role in this prequel for Jessica Alba, don't be too surprised if they find a place for ol' Tony Flags. But equally, don't start putting up the bunting or blowing up the helium balloons until there's an official announcement.
Meanwhile, Rosario Dawson has been talking about her role, which apparently fills in the backstory between her character and Clive Owen's that was mentioned in the first film. She's also planning on wearing an even-skimpier costume and some sort of dominatrix mask, in the noble aim of being even more faithful to the comics. Gentlemen, may we recommend a cold shower and a brisk run to counteract those feelings of dizzyness currently assailing you.
