Thundering into pole position this time last year with a $20.9 million opening for Remember The Titans, Denzel Washington has now done it again, ruling the US charts over the weekend with his new drama, Training Day. Taking $22.6 million, Training Day stars Washington as corrupt cop Alonzo Harris who takes rookie Ethan Hawke under his wing as the young, idealistic officer begins his first day on the job. Runners up at this week's great box office Grand Prix were John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale rom-com Serendipity, coming in at second place with $13.3 million, and Michael Douglas thriller Don't Say a Word scraping third with a respectable $9.8 million.
