Former Bangles singer writes script

Here at Empire, we like to see our childhood heroes get ahead. Three cheers, therefore, for Susanna Hoffs Roach, former lead singer of the Bangles and newly successful Hollywood screenwriter. She has written a script called Exorcism For Dummies along with two other first-time writers, Brian Stampnitsky and Charley Stickney, and has succeeded in selling it to Revolution Studios. The story concerns a slacker who poses as an exorcist, but make the very upsetting discovery that he actually has the gift. He must then set out to snuff out the eternal flame of the demons he has loosed upon the world. The film is an off-beat comedy, and is still too early in development to have signed a director or any cast. Co-incidentally, Susanna Hoffs Roach is married to Austin Powers director Jay Roach, but there is no suggestion so far that he will direct. He is currently working on Meet the Fockers and producing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with a film called Niagara still to come. We'll keep you posted on any further developments, so in the meantime, dig out your vinyl and walk like an Egyptian.
