Daniel Craig took time out between Bond films to work with Edward Zwick on Defiance, the story of the Bielski brothers and their efforts to save thousands of their fellow Jews from Hitler's invading army during World War II - and now the trailer's online here.
The trailer's an interesting selection of scenes, making it appear that this is an entirely a film made up of pronouncements rather than conversations. "Every day of freedom is an act of faith", y'see. "If you save a life, you must take responsibility for it." "And we will become warriors!"
Still, Zwick's last film, Blood Diamond, was actually pretty good, and Craig's a talented actor - and he's joined here by ever-dependable spell-check nemesis Liev Schreiber and Jamie "when are they going to stop calling me Billy Elliot" Bell. Rather wonderfully, one of the two screenwriters of the film, Clayton Frohman, worked on Kylie Minogue film The Delinquents, from which it is surely a small step to fighting Nazis in the forest of Belarus.
The film doesn't have a release date yet, but expect to see it late this year.
