Focus Features has set its sights on Water director Deepa Mehta to handle previouslt announced biopic The Julia Project.
Though that’s just a working title for now, the film follows Julia Mullock, an American interior designer who ended up married to the last crown prince of Korea.
How, you might ask? Easy: she met her future husband, Kyu Lee, in 1950s New York after his country removed the royal family from power. The couple lived in Hawaii and Seoul, before Lee divorced his wife in 1982 under pressure from the royals, who were disappointed at the lack of a male heir. Mullock is still alive and well in Hawaii – Lee died last year.
There’s no word on when the project will kick off yet.
