If there’s one big lesson that the new trailer for John Madden’s time-spanning drama **The Debt **teaches us, it’s that Nazis are bad. Admittedly, that’s not exactly a new idea, so how about something fresh? Well, turns out that Sam Worthington can expect to look like Ciaran Hinds when he gets older.
But The Debt has darker themes and more serious subjects on its mind than just the wrinkly future-Worthington. Starting in 1965, it follows three relatively fresh-faced Mossad agents (Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Marton Csokas), who are tasked with hunting down a notorious Nazi war criminal doctor known as The Surgeon. Their mission hits some problems, but they believe they’ve completed their task.
Then, 30 years later, a man claiming to be their old target surfaces in the Ukraine and now the trio – played by Hinds, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson – must reunite in a very different world to find out what’s really going on.
With the solid acting talent on display and Madden behind the camera (not to mention Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn among the credited writers), we think this one looks well worth a watch. It arrives on December 29 in the US, but not in the UK until February 11.
