It's been rumoured, announced and talked about ever since classic HBO drama Deadwood left our screens, and now the TV movie to wrap up the story is actually, finally starting to shoot.

Confirmed as officially in the works back in July, it has taken all this time to reunite the lion's share of the sprawling cast, who have been busy on a variety of other projects.

Now, with creator David Milch providing the typically verbal and profanity-laden script and veteran Deadwood director Daniel Minahan marshalling the violent, chatty milieu, the film will see characters from the frontier town reunited after ten years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.

Principle players Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Dayton Callie, Brad Dourif, Robin Weigert, W. Earl Brown, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens and Gerald McRaney are all returning, with new cast member Jade Pettyjohn joining as a character named Caroline.

HBO has yet to announce when the show might return, but the channel has been hoping for a Spring 2019 date.
