When the first teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped, we all still thought it would be titled Deadpool 3 – and so, it largely held back on the Wolverine of it all, mainly reorienting us with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth as he prepares to make his MCU debut. But for the follow-up trailer, the Wolverine is firmly out of the bag – and therefore this foul-mouthed full look at the much-anticipated sequel is all about the friction that comes from buddying up the quip-tactic Wade Wilson with Hugh Jackman’s snarling, lonely Logan. The result looks to be a huge amount of fun. Watch the trailer here:

In the words of our two titular heroes: let’s fuckin’ go. While the exact plot of the film remains under wraps, we get much more of the tonal dynamic between Deadpool and Wolverine in this trailer. It is, as you can imagine, a fractious one – it’s unclear still whether this is the same Wolverine from Logan or any previous X-Men films (our guess would be that it’s an all-new variant), but either way he’s been through some dark times. Which makes him the ideal foil for Deadpool, who’s fighting to save his world from deletion, and requiring much (emotionally wounded) backup. Together, these two might just be exactly what each other needs.

What we do get instead is plenty of action (Wolverine claws stabbed up between the legs anyone? Ooft!), fresh glimpses of Emma Corrin’s upcoming villain, more gags at Deadpool entering Disney’s domain, and an inspired needle-drop of Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’. And did you see that giant Ant-Man helmet? Was that X-Men 2’s Lady Deathstrike there? And Azazel from First Class? How does the Mad Max-style vehicular action factor into all this? And where does that Doctor Strange portal lead to? Let the fan theory explosion begin. Deadpool & Wolverine comes to UK cinemas on 26 July.
