Hold onto your chimichangas and lock up your cuddly unicorns, because Deadpool 2 has just dropped its first proper trailer. Following on from the deliriously trippy Bob Ross parody video that barely showed anything from the irreverent superhero sequel, the new clip goes all-in on Josh Brolin’s much-anticipated Cable.
It all starts ominously enough, with Brolin offering grim soundbites (“What’s the most pain you’ve ever felt?”) and moody stares. Of course, this being Deadpool it’s not long before Ryan Reynolds' motor-mouthed mercenary starts offering a commentary, pointing out unfinished green-screen effects and poking fun at Henry Cavill’s moustache removal in Justice League.
There’s a brief introduction to Cable’s backstory (“I’m Cable, and I’m from the future and I like blowing shit up”) and his best-frenemies relationship with Deadpool, complete with Toy Story-infused crotch-fighting, and all told with kids’ toys. Then it’s back to business as usual, with Cable blowing shit up (true to Wade’s word), Zazie Beetz making her debut as Domino, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead showing off some upgraded powers. You also see Ricky Baker himself, Julian Dennison, flipping the bird, and Wade Wilson breaking the fourth wall because, well, Deadpool.
Curiously the sequel still doesn’t have an official title, and the trailer doesn’t offer one up. Whatever it ends up being called, it’s hitting UK cinemas on 16 May, two weeks sooner than previously expected and two days earlier than the US.
