After a sojourn in Hollywood (well, it was shot in Germany) with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola is returning to past glories for his next film. Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead is the follow-up to his 2009 Nazi-zombies epic Dead Snow, and Martin Starr, Ingrid Haas and Jocelyn Deboer have just been added to the cast roster.
"Ein! Zwei! Die!" was the memorable tagline of the original Raimi-influenced splatter comedy. The plot involved a gang of spring-breaking students stumbling upon some looted WWII treasure and incurring the wrath of the Reich revenants still jealously guarding it.
The sequel originally went under the title War Of the Dead, but has presumably dropped that moniker in deference to the 2011 Finnish film of the same name{
Part of that anti-zombie squad, we can probably safely assume, is Starr, who had roles in Superbad, Knocked Up and Adventureland, and recently played himself in This Is The End. He's also in Zach Braff'sforthcoming Wish I Was Here. Haas, meanwhile, was in Scott Pilgrim, and newcomer Deboer has a background in comedy shorts (as in short comedy films, not amusing hotpants). Given the synopsis, we might assume Vigar Hoel is in the film too.
Some shooting has taken place already, as evidenced in the video below from June, and Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead - which is being released in English and Norwegian versions - should lurch onto screens sometime next year.
