In this era of Hangovers and Big Mommas, comedies about the older generations tend to be the purview of Nancy Meyers or Rob Reiner. But Bucket List writer/producer Justin Zackham is stepping up to direct his own take, with Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried all signing on to his comedy Gently Down the stream.
The plot will focus on De Niro and Keaton who have long since been divorced. But for the sake of their adopted son (and his biological mother) they pretend to still be married on the day of his wedding. Trouble is, they’re just not that great at pretending they’re still in love, and the plan starts to unravel.
There’s no word on what parts Heigl or Seyfried will be playing in the story, though we assume one of them is the bride-to-be.
"I'm excited to be able to continue what we started with on **The Bucket List **– iconic actors in a funny, adult, character-driven story, albeit with a little more sex and bad behaviour on everyone's part," said Zackham. Hooray for sex and bad behaviour!
Intriguingly, Variety reports that the film will lose the seemingly cryptic title for overseas releases (no idea if they’re including the UK in that group), changing it to The Big Wedding in certain countries outside the US. Wouldn’t it be easier (and cut down on printing costs) just to use the Wedding title everywhere?
