If you're assembling a family drama with any pretensions to cool these days, you need a quality ensemble cast. And ensembles don't get much tastier than this line up for Everybody's Fine, which has signed on Robert De Niro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell to star.

The story's based on Giuseppe Tornatore's Italian film of 1991, in which a widowed bureaucrat (De Niro, we're guessing) realises that his recently deceased wife was his only link to his five children. He sets off to visit them on the mainland, but finds none of them as he expected.

Assuming a faithful adaptation and that Rockwell, Barrymore and Beckinsale all play the children, we may see another couple of names still to sign up - but so far, it's looking good.

The script's been adapted by Kirk Jones, who'll also direct. Not exactly a household name, he was responsible for Nanny McPhee and Waking Ned, so knows a thing or two about heartwarming drama that stays just the right side of maudlin. Jones has been attached to the film for two years, with shooting finally set to start in Connecticut next month.
