In the same way that CBS All Access is hoping to puts itself on the digital map with Star Trek: Discovery, Warner Brothers will be launching a digital network that will start with a pair of DC projects: a live action version of Teen Titans, simply called Titans, and the animated Young Justice: Outsiders.
Titans — a project which had previously been in development as a feature film as well as a proposed TNT television series — is coming from producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman (also on Discovery) and Geoff Johns, all of whome will be writing the premiere episode as well. Berlanti, of course, is the creative force behind the CW/Sky1's The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, as well as the forthcoming Black Lightning.
Titans, one of DC's most popular brands from comics to animation (the made-for-DVD film Teen Titans: The Judas Contract was released earlier this month), is a long-anticipated project for fans. While it's not entirely clear how old these heroes will be, WB does describe them as "a group of young soon-to-be superheroes who are brought together as a team." Among those supposed to be included are Robin, Starfire and Raven, with presumably Beast Boy and Blue Beetle to join them.
Seemingly skewing older, ironically, is the animated Young Justice, which previously aired for two seasons before being canceled, but had developed such a continuing following (especially on Netflix) that public demand has brought it back.
The team — which is in training to theoretically some day join the Justice League — consists of Nighwing, Superboy, Kaldur'ahm, Artemis, Kid Flash, and Miss Martian. Batman is the one who assigns them their missions.
In Outsiders, the group finds itself taking on traffickers of meta-humans and, as the studio notes "the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy."
Returning to oversee Outsiders are Young Justice creators Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman.
Both Titans and Young Justice: Outsiders are expected to debut some time in 2018.
