DC FanDome

This year’s Comic-Con was a much lower-key affair than usual – an online-only event called Comic-Con@Home, that still had some exciting reveals and new footage, but wasn’t quite the powerhouse geek calendar event that it normally is. Partially that was down to Covid, and partially due to an absence of the ‘Big Two’, Marvel and DC. Instead, the latter comics giant has its own digital event coming up. The end of August brings DC FanDome, an online interactive convention with panels, reveals and more planned for all kinds of upcoming DC movies, games, comics and more.

Ahead of the one-day event, which takes place on Saturday 22 August, DC has confirmed the full list of names who are participating in the FanDome event – and it’s worth combing through them. Notably, The Batman director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson are both down, strongly suggesting that we’ll see something from the latest incarnation of the Caped Crusader, while James Gunn is also going to be present, along with members of his The Suicide Squad cast including Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, and Viola Davis.

In other Suicide Squad news, game developers Rocksteady – the makers of the beloved Batman: Arkham games – have just confirmed the existence of their upcoming Suicide Squad video game, rumoured to see the anti-hero gang take on the Justice League, with more info to come at the FanDome event.

Elsewhere, the event will include the presence of Ezra Miller and Andy Muschietti – so expect something on the long-gestating Flash movie – while Dwayne Johnson will be on hand, presumably to tee up Black Adam. Also present will be director David F. Sandberg and his Shazam! cast, including Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer and Mark Strong – hinting that there may be word on its upcoming sequel. Plus, the Wonder Woman 1984 gang will be (digitally) in town, including director Patty Jenkins, and stars Gal Gadot, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal. Damon Lindelof’s name is on there too – cue speculation of anything Watchmen-wise, or something else we don’t know about yet. And, of course, Zack Snyder will be there to talk the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

It’s worth sifting through the list, presented in alphabetical order, to start imagining what’s in store (what’s Henry Winkler doing on there? Does it really say Paloma Faith?) – and pay attention on the weekend of the 22nd for the full picture on what the DC slate has in store.
