Zombies might not be quite the ratings magnets they once were (The Walking Dead is still big and successful, but its numbers have dropped considerably), but that isn't stopping the US Syfy Channel from snacking on George Romero's Day Of The Dead for a new series.

Based on Romero's third film in his classic zombie series, Day Of The Dead is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. It aims to remind us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart. Oh, and it most famously introduced beloved zombie character Bub. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas wrote the first script and will run the show, which should be on the network next year.

Day Of The Dead was remade to lackluster effect back in 2008 and another version was mooted in 2014, but the move to the small screen is the latest twist in the tale.
