In terms of voyaging that involves time, we're more used to David Tennant popping around the universe in a blue police box. But he's off on an entirely different journey for a new role, as he'll play Phileas Fogg in the latest TV take on Around The World In 80 Days.

Ashley Pharoah and Caleb Ranson wrote the adaptation of Jules Verne's globe-trotting classic, which will see Fogg accepting an outrageous bet to smash the record of world-spanning travel. Along with his valet, Passepartout (Ibrahim Koma) and aspiring journalist Abigail Fix (Leonie Benesch), he'll venture into danger and potential glory.

Steve Barron and Charles Beeson will share directorial duties on the eight episodes, which are due to start shooting in February, ready to hit the Beeb's screens at the end of the year.
