We learned last November that Sky Cinema was putting together the cast for an animated adaptation of Terry Pratchett tome The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents, with its title truncated to just the feline main character's name and the ensemble including Hugh Laurie and Emilia Clarke. The list continues to grow, with David Tennant and Rob Brydon now among those aboard.
Toby Genkel and Florian Westermann are directing the film, with a script by Terry Rossio that adapts Pratchett's 2001 Discworld tome. A riff on the Pied Piper story, it follows a streetwise ginger cat who has the perfect money-making scam. He finds a kid who plays a pipe, and also befriends his very own horde of talking rats. When they reach the stricken town of Bad Blintz, their con game goes awry.
With the full backing of the Pratchett estate (unlike some more recent, very, very very loose adaptations), the film will also include the voice skills of Ariyon Bakare, Julie Atherton, Joe Sugg, David Thewlis, Himesh Patel, Gemma Arterton and Hugh Bonneville. The Amazing Maurice will debut on Sky Cinema and NOW next year.
