Cult classic 1991 adventure The Rocketeer still holds a special place in a lot of peoples' hearts and heads, and the graphic novel adaptation is getting a follow-up David Oyelowo is producing and aiming to star in The Return Of The Rocketeer for Disney+.
The original, directed by Joe Johnston and adapted by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo from Dave Stevens' tome, featured Billy Campbell as Cliff, a young pilot who discovers a prototype jetpack that allows him to become a flying masked hero. He has to go up against Nazi spies to save the love of his life.
Oyelowo and wife Jessica recently signed a first-look deal with Disney to develop new movies through their Yoruba Sexton company, and this would appear to be their first project out of the gate under that agreement. Jessica Jones and Now You See Me veteran Ed Ricourt is at work on a script that would see retired Tuskegee airman take up the mantle of the heroic character.
It's early for this one, so we'll see how it develops, but if Oyelowo does end up starring, we could easily see him soaring through the skies as a hero.
