Did you know that July 30 is Christopher Nolan’s birthday? It’s true. So it seems appropriate that it’s the day that two new pieces of casting for Nolan’s latest film, Interstellar, broke into the wider world. Yes, just when we thought the director was really, truly finished assembling his cast, he goes and adds David Oyelowo and David Gyasi to the list.
We’re not complaining, however, as they’re both superb choices. The pair, who appeared in Red Tails together, are onboard in unknown roles for the film, which finds a group of explorers headed through a wormhole to an alternate dimension.
Already aboard are Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Michael Caine, Mackenzie Foy, Wes Bentley, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, Bill Irwin and Timothee Chalamet, who are all currently locked in a vacuum chamber lest they breathe a word of the film’s actual plot or character details to the press.
Nolan has crafted the script by welding an original concept to an idea dreamt up by his brother Jonah, back when Steven Spielberg was considering the project. It’s all based on Caltech physicist Kip Thorne’s theories, with Thorne working as technical consultant to keep the science firmly in the science fiction.
Oyelowo will next be seen in Lee Daniels’** The Butler** and Default. Gyasi has appeared in shows such as Doctor Who and White Heat and movies including **Cloud Atlas **and The Dark Knight Rises, which likely explains why he’s back on Nolan’s radar.
Interstellar will be out on November 7 next year.
