I Heart Huckabees helmer David O Russell is leaving the world of indie cinema behind for a while to work in TV – proof if proof be needed that telly is the new hot destination for filmmaking talent.
He’s collaborating with Simpsons writer Josh Lieb for an untitled drama comedy set behind the scenes at an exclusive Los Angeles country club that tweaks soap opera conventions. "It's David O Russell, so it's very funny, but underneath it all are very real issues about the American dream, what it is and how does money equate to happiness," producer Gavin Polone told Variety. And it’s being produced at FX, the network that brought the world The Shield and Nip/Tuck, so we’re sure there’ll be some boundary nudging content (hint: swearing and taboo subjects).
Russell’s planning to co-write the pilot and direct it, then help to oversee the shown as an executive producer.
