David O Russell May Load 2 Guns

It would seem as though David O Russell and Vince Vaughn really do want to work together. Not content with the pair trying to set up travelling salesman comedy drama Old St Louis, the director is now in negotiations to rewrite and call the shots on Universal’s comic book pic** 2 Guns**, which already features Vaughn attached as its star.

Blake Masters has already written one draft of the script, which adapts Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco’s Boom Studios comic about a DEA agent and a Naval Intelligence officer who discover that they’re investigating one another. It gets more complicated when they think they’ve pulled off a job stealing mob money for the government, but find out afterwards that they were tricked into lifting $50 million from the CIA.

While the blend of money and the military has us thinking Three Kings, it doesn’t initially scream out as a likely job for Russell, but then given that the big project bubbling away in development for him is an adaptation of video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, it’s not like he’s getting pigeonholed any time soon. Plus, thanks to his awards-nabbing work on The Fighter, he’s pretty much got his pick of assignments at the moment.

Universal will no doubt be hoping he comes aboard, since the studio bought the rights in 2008 with the aim of having Vaughn star, but the project has lingered around the studio halls for the last couple of years, occasionally stealing cigarettes and dropping used coke cans everywhere. According to the Heat Vision blog, the executives might get their wish, as Russell is apparently considering the idea that he can squeeze in** 2 Guns** before diving into Uncharted’s island waters.
