Pete's Dragon remake co-writer/director David Lowery has one film on its way to UK screens (The Old Man And The Gun), and he's been developing a new take on Peter Pan for Disney. Yet he's also squeezing in time to work on another movie, planning fantasy tale Green Knight.
He's struck a deal with A24, which produced his 2017 film A Ghost Story to direct a movie based on the story of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight. It follows chivalrous and loyal Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur’s Round Table, who accepts the challenge of beheading the Green Knight and must wait a year and a day to receive a blow in return, as part of a test of his loyalty to the king.
Stephen Weeks previously wrote and directed two adaptations of the tale, 1973 cinematic release Gawain And The Green Knight and 1984's Sword Of The Valiant. Lowery's clearly looking to shake things up in terms of genre again, and we're interested to see what he does with this one.
The Old Man And The Gun, meanwhile, will be out on 7 December. And that's not the only new project Lowery is involved in – he's also developing a TV series based on Joe Dante's 1985 sci-fi film Explorers with fellow director Cary Fukunaga.
