The continuing saga of Hollywood – Sony's corner of it, at least – trying to make a new film based on He-Man and those Masters Of The Universe has taken another turn, with David Goyer entering talks to sit in the director's chair.
It's not a huge surprise, since Goyer has already been involved with the film, writing the latest draft of a script that has been through the hands of Terry Rossio, among others.
If he does take on the job, it will be Goyer's task to wrangle a new take on the story of Prince Adam of Eternia, who uses a powerful magic sword to become the hero known as He-Man. He'll be battling the evil Skeletor, who has designs on Castle Grayskull. In addition to a successful Mattel toy line and cartoon in the 1980s, the concept spawned a live-action movie version in 1987, which is not always looked upon fondly.
Assuming everything comes together, Goyer will be aiming to have the movie ready for a December 2019 release slot.
