David Gordon Green is a director best known for thoughtful, beautifully-shot, Terence Malick-y looking indie dramas of the tragic variety. But don't stereotype him as some beret-wearing wannabe philosopher, because he's recently finished work on the allegedly hilarious The Pineapple Express and he's today signed on to direct comedy effort Your Highness, starring funnyman up-and-comer Danny McBride.
McBride may be familiar as one of the background funny guys in Hot Rod, Drillbit Taylor and The Heartbreak Kid, but he has a lead role in The Foot Fist Way coming up, a sort of cross between The Office and Anchorman and Karate Kid. He's also worked with Gordon Green before, on All The Real Girls and The Pineapple Express, and in fact the two were college classmates, which just goes to show: be nice to that guy in the beret at the back of the class. He may secretly like comedy and decide to make your film one day.
The story this time is based on a script by McBride and Ben Best, and takes place in a fantastical kingdom ("with dragons and wizards") where a lazy, arrogant prince (McBride) must complete a quest to save his father's kingdom and prove himself.
Production's due to begin in January. In the meantime, check out **The Foot Fist Way **and The Pineapple Express for yourself, and try to imagine a cross between the two, but with dragons.
